Bizarre World

to get the DUI checkpoints banned as unconstitutional search and seizures, have failed all the way to the Supreme Court. Now, however, some illegal aliens whose very presence is against the law, and who are driving on public streets without a driver’s license or insurance, simply have to say “unfair” and government rushes to accommodate them.

Not only did the city stop the checkpoints, but it is now offering to warn them where the checkpoints will be so they won’t get caught in them. Meanwhile, no such accommodation is being issued to legal Americans. They get caught in the snare, they face fines, confiscation of their cars, and jail. Laws mean what? Being an American citizen means what?

Item 3. Former President Bill Clinton, according to a UPI report, has set his sights on becoming United Nations Secretary-General. A Clinton insider and a senior UN source have told United Press International that Clinton would like to be named leader of the world body when Kofi Annan’s term ends in 2006. Word is that UN leaders would flock to enthusiastically elect him. The only thing standing in his way to being head of the world is the reelection of George W. Bush, who would surely move to block Clinton’s nomination.

That creates a massive dilemma for conservatives. If Bush is elected, Clinton’s bid for the UN leadership can be stopped in 2006. However, if John Kerry is elected, that would effectively remove any chance of Hillary being elected President in 2008. The Clinton’s have successfully put the nation in a vice. The Clinton’s are coming at us from two sides. Which one do we choose?

You see, positive proof that the world has truly has gone mad.  ##

Open Letter

Whereas Democratic presidential candidate Al Gore created harmful racial division when he falsely claimed that the 2000 presidential election was “stolen” from him and that African Americans in Florida were disenfranchised, even though a second recount of Florida votes by the “Miami Herald” and a consortium of major news organizations confirmed that he lost the election, and a ruling by the U.S. Civil Rights Commission declared that African Americans were not denied the right to vote,

Whereas the Democratic Party's soft bigotry of low expectations and social promotions have consigned African Americans to economic bondage and created a culture of dependency on government social programs,

Whereas the Democratic Party's use of deception and fear to block welfare reform, the faith-based initiative and school choice that would help African Americans prosper is consistent with the Democratic Party's heritage of racism that included sanctioning of slavery and kukluxery, a perversion of moral sentiment among leaders of the Democratic Party whose racist legacy bode ill until this generation of African Americans,

Now, therefore, for the above and other documented atrocities and accumulated wrongs inflicted upon African Americans, we demand a formal written apology and other appropriate remuneration from the leadership of the Democratic party.###

Red & Blue

The maintenance of democratic institutions demands that partisan spokesmen, while differing on matters of ideology, adhere as closely as possible to truth, fairness, and decency, conducting themselves as honorable men and women.  But with that as our standard for political discourse, how can we expect to remain “one nation, under God” when one side continually “poisons the well” of political debate?

In his October 14 “To The Point” column, Dr. Jack Wheeler warns that, in the upcoming elections, Democrats are going to “Floridize all of America.  They are going to cheat on a scale that dwarfs anything this country has ever seen… not just because Democrats are deranged with Bush-hatred.  It’s because in their left-wing hearts they are Marxists.  Marxists who hate capitalism and employers… Marxists whose (only) morality is that the ends justify the means.

“The Democratic Party is now dominated by people who feel they have the moral right to cheat and lie and intimidate, by people who are willing, if not eager, to discredit and ruin America’s entire electoral system…”

We are now nearing the end of a campaign in which virtually every Democratic leader has engaged in the most egregious kind of dishonesty, on almost every issue.  They’ve attempted to frighten young people and parents by raising the specter of a military draft; they’ve attempted to energize African-Americans by insisting that Republicans intend to disenfranchise them; they’ve attempted to frighten seniors by claiming that Republicans will take Social Security away from them; and in the most loathsome pander of all, they’ve appealed to paraplegics by promising them freedom from their wheelchairs – if only they will elect John Kerry as President of the United States.

How could any political party stoop so low?  They have abandoned all pretense at common decency, but their words are grist for the uneducated, the uninformed, the gullible, the angry, and the spiteful.  But what of the aftermath?  Can the genie be put back into the bottle?  Can the stink be put back onto the skunk?

When all the votes are counted the map of the United States will likely be painted solid red all across the south, from Arizona to Virginia, with a mixture of red and blue from California to Maine.  So if that’s the way we see ourselves, and if we can no longer live together in trust and mutual respect, we may all be a lot happier as two nations: one free, the other authoritarian socialist.

Of one thing we can be sure: the time would come when memories of the Berlin Wall would be rekindled and history would repeat itself.  Citizens of Blue America would risk life itself to escape to Red America.  That much is certain.

Standing With My Friends

The most promising solution to this dilemma is coal gasification, a process creating gas from coal.  The United States is the Saudi Arabia of coal; we have a 500 year supply.  The technology is proven; Eastman itself has been using coal gasification for more than 20 years.  The obstacle, until lately, has been the high cost of coal gasification plants.  Now, with high natural gas prices and our reluctance to use other energy supplies, the day of coal gasification may be arriving.

There is the old story about the politician with friends on all sides of the issue who announced, "I stand with my friends."  Some of my friends want stricter pollution controls.  The friends I met with at the roundtable want more supply.  Others want more conservation.  I stand with my friends, because all three legs of the stool are necessary to any solution.

One thing we do know for sure:  Tennessee workers and farmers can't wait.  President Dwight Eisenhower had a saying: "farming looks mighty easy when your plow is a pencil and you're a thousand miles from the corn field."  The pencil pushers and ideologues in Washington need to understand that natural gas fuels our economy.  By not increasing our supply quickly - through more drilling, new pipelines, approving LNG terminals, and coal gasification - our growing economic recovery will become recent history. ##
